Program Summary
The Health Equity Data & Delivery Science Certificate Program hosted by the Mongan Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital will equip clinician scientists and early career researchers with practical knowledge and fundamental skills in health care data science, health care delivery science, and health equity science.
Applicants are anticipated to have a master’s degree, medical degree, doctoral degree, or prior research experience conducting research in relevant fields

At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

-
Describe the principles and practices used in health care data science, health care delivery science, and health equity science.
-
Apply health equity data and delivery science methods to clinical, care delivery, and public health problems
-
Identify which study designs are best suited to different clinical, care delivery, or public health research questions
-
Describe approaches to evaluating health care quality and outcomes through observational research using electronic health records, health care claims, data registries, and large data sets
-
Describe approaches to improving health care delivery including quality improvement, designing and testing interventions, pragmatic trials, implementation science, and learning health system science
-
Understand qualitative and quantitative methods and analytical techniques in health equity data and delivery science and their application to real-world research projects or problem-sets
-
Apply skills to develop a research question, specific aims, testable hypothesis, and approach for your own project
The Health Equity Data & Delivery Science Certificate Program is designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals using a hybrid design that includes virtual lectures and interactive small group sessions along with a series of in-person workshops. An optional biostatistics boot camp will also be offered.
Following an overview of fundamentals of health equity data and delivery science, participants will select one of two concentrations:

Health Care Data & Observational Research: This concentration will provide an overview of observational research methods and study designs, including using electronic health records, health care claims data, registries, publicly available data sets to address critical research questions, as well as understanding the potential application of artificial intelligence/machine learning in clinical informatics
Intervention & Implementation Research: This concentration will provide an overview of theories, methods, and analytical techniques relevant to intervention development, randomized trial design, pragmatic trials, implementation research, and learning health systems research.
Upon completion of the certificate program participants will have developed a capstone research idea and design focused on their own area of interest and expertise.
